Perishable Suppliers

improving freshness and quality for our customers

There are currently 6 produce HUBS, 3 chill hubs and 1 chill consolidation centre which accomodate 80% of our produce and 75% of our chill volume. The hubs are located around England, plus one site in Holland (click here for map). The Hub Concept It is important , and ensures the right quantities of the freshest produce are delivered to our stores. Our suppliers typically receive an order, via EDI, on day one, by day two the perishables have reached one of our Regional Distribution Centres and on day three our store customer can buy the product. By operating a network of hubs between our suppliers and we also:
  • Provide single delivery point for suppliers, or arrange for collection
  • Maximise vehicle fill, either on the collection vehicle or by consolidating pallets at the hub by cross docking
  • Deliver to our RDCs seven days a week
  • Reduce and control the number of vehicles going into our regional depots and pass the responsibility for deliveries to depot and schedule adherance from our suppliers to our hauliers
  • Add freshness and quality to our produce
  • Increase availability in our stores, without adding costs to the supply chain
