Supporting responsible drinking

Our alcohol labelling

Most of us like a drink from time to time but if you drink alcohol it’s important to drink responsibly, this means staying within the safe guidelines.

To help you make informed decisions on alcohol consumption we've provide clear labelling on all our own branded alcohol packaging.

Government guidelines for not regularly exceeding...

Alcohol limits for women

No more than 2-3 units of alcohol a day.

Alcohol limits for men

No more than 3-4 units of alcohol a day.

What does this actually mean?

All Sainsbury’s own-label alcoholic drinks bottles will have this information on the label.
We've a few examples of the number of units in some alcoholic drinks to give you a guide on how many units are in alcoholic drinks:

One pint of beer or lager

(4% ABV) = 2.3 units

One pint of cider

(5.3% ABV) = 3 units

25mls/a pub measure of spirits

(40% ABV) = 1 unit

175ml glass of wine

(12.5% ABV) = 2.2 units

Alcopops

(5.5% ABV) = 1.5 units
