    Compostable packaging 12 Jun 2009

Please could others feed back their experience of the home compostable packing used by Sainsbury's. Having just turned my compost bin I am concerned that all the compostable packaging added to the bin over the course of 3+ years looks completely untouched while everything around it is rotting nicely. I am particularly irritated by this as I always used to take the time to cut trays and bags into small pieces to aid decomposition. I say used to, because I have now reverted to chucking the compostable packinging in the rubbish bin as I don't want my compost bin to become choked with material that apparently acts very much like any old plastic.

Any views would be appreciated. Do others share my experience? How long should this stuff take to break down?

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

It’s disappointing there are still bits of our compostable packaging left in your compost. The heap must be rotting down nicely in this warm weather.

If you could give my Careline colleagues a call on 0800 636262 with some details about the product, we can share your experience with our packaging team. I know we have some keen gardeners amongst us here and we’ll be happy to ‘break down’ what’s gone wrong.
